As we’re nearing the end of the first month of the year, I’m still wondering what this year will bring?
I’ve started planning our adventures for this year. The biggie will be the trip to Wales for my son to meet his great-grandfather as well as a multitude of aunts, uncles and assorted cousins. We’re planning camping/backcountry camping trips to Jasper, Lake O’Hara, Waterton and Elk Island – with some smaller overnighters as time permits. We have a winter weekend in Kananaskis planned and a trip to see grandma and grandpa in the Okanogan. There’s a list of possible day trips that include dinosaurs, airplanes, sunflowers, pumpkins, and waterfalls. There’s hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking and tromping. There’s birthday parties and holidays. There’s the rest of this winter, spring, summer, fall and another winter starting. The year looks like it should be a lot of fun.
Looking back January has been a pretty laid back month for us. There haven’t been many grand adventures (at least by our standards), we’ve spent more time at home or close to home than is usual. On the other hand, this is not to say that it has been productive. We’ve used this last month has been used to get back into the routine after a chaotic and stressful fall and holiday season. We’ve been working hard to be more interactive with our son and to ask him what he wants to do rather than make assumptions. I’ve used the time to do more photography, to learn new developing and publishing techniques and to start a Project 366. My son has been potty training. We’ve done our best to get outside everyday.
I’ve also been reading more blogs and articles to gain inspiration for trips, scrapbooking, the outdoors, kids play, photography and other activities. Many with opposing views. What has become clear is, that in the end, whatever we choose has to be right for ourselves and our family. That is the Big Picture – to be happy and healthy. January has been a good month… I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings. I hope that you join me as I chronicle some of my adventures in being a stay-at-home mom raising a spirited two-year (turning three-year) old boy, a wife, an outdoor enthusiast and photographer while trying to remain sane. I hope that you find inspiration and that you make the choices that leads to a happy and healthy family in YOUR household.
Enjoy your weekend… if everything goes according to plan we’re taking our son downhill skiing for the first time!
