We all have those voices in our head giving their opinion. They are the voices of your parents, teachers, friends, neighbours, co-workers, sisters, brothers and strangers. They all have ideas about how you should live your life, what you should do, what you shouldn’t do, how to raise your kids, etc. Half the information contradicts the other half. They are also the voices that set expectations.

It’s the voice that says “I should be doing __________” (laundry, organizing the basement, cleaning the bathroom, making dinner) when all you really want to do is strap on your hiking boots and get out in the fresh air.

It’s the voice that says “You really should use the three day potty training method” when it doesn’t fit your child.

It’s the voice that says “But they’re good for you” when even the smell turns you off.

It’s the voice that says “My son/daughter can ________” (count, speak a second language, ski) when yours isn’t there yet.

It might even be my voice saying “Get outside every day”

All I have to say is ignore them, tune them out. Get inspiration, get ideas, get advice but in the end make the decisions that are right for you and your family. Don’t compare your kids and find them lacking – enjoy them and their uniqueness. Remember it’s about the Big Picture – what makes you and your family happy and healthy.

Enjoy the weekend!
